Calypso May Haddad is a director, choreographer, educator and artistic collaborator working primarily in the world of musical theater. Named after Jacques Cousteau's ship, Calypso is a third-generation hippie born and raised alongside the alligators in sunny Gainesville, FL. She trained with Dance Alive! National Ballet, held a Performing Arts Scholarship at Santa Fe College and graduated magna cum laude from Elon University earning her BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography. Calypso has over 13 years of teaching experience and was previously employed by Millennium Dance Complex Orange County, The Arts and Learning Conservatory of Costa Mesa, and Alachua County Public Schools as a Dance Instructor, Arts Integration Advisor, and High School Thespian Troupe Director. Calypso recently graduated with her MFA from Florida State University where she taught beginner and advanced jazz dance, mentored undergraduate choreographers, and was employed as a graduate research and production assistant for the School of Dance. She has created works for FSU School of Theatre, FSU School of Dance, The Hippodrome State Theatre, The Acrosstown Repertory Theatre, The Young Actors Theatre and a multitude of schools throughout the United States. Calypso is passionate about arts education and community collaborations that strive to make dance and theatre more proactive, inclusive, and conscious.
